If your washing machine is not completing its cycle, it could be due to a blocked drain pump or kinked/blocked drain hose. Follow the steps below to diagnose and fix the issue.
Clean the Drain Pump
A common cause of cycle interruption is a blocked drain pump.
1. Turn off the washing machine.
Switch off the appliance and unplug it from the mains.
2. Open the service flap.
Locate and open the service flap at the front of your machine.
3. Drain remaining water.
- Use the drainage hose (if available) to empty the water into a container.
- Alternatively, slowly unscrew the pump cover to let the water drain out gradually.
4. Clean the pump.
- Remove any debris inside the pump.
- Clean the pump cover, threads, and housing so the impeller can spin freely.
5. Reassemble the pump.
- Refit the pump cover and screw it back on tightly.
6. Check for leaks and pump function.
- Pour 1 litre of water into the detergent drawer.
- Look for leaks around the pump area.
- If watertight, run a short "Drain" or "Pump Out" programme to test.
If this does not work, check the drain hose using the instructions below.
Check the Drain Hose
If cleaning the pump didn't help, the issue may be with the drain hose.
1. Turn off the washing machine and unplug it.
2. Check for kinks or blockages.
- Examine the entire length of the drainage hose.
- Make sure it’s not crushed or bent.
3. Clean the hose and siphon connection.
- Place a bucket under the connection to catch water.
- Loosen the hose clip and disconnect the hose from the siphon.
- Drain any remaining water into the bucket.
- Rinse out the hose and clean the siphon connector.
4. Test the drain function.
- Hold the hose in the bucket and run the "Drain" programme.
- Confirm that water is flowing out freely.
- Reconnect the hose and ensure it's sealed tightly.
