It is not uncommon for strange noises to be heard from the dishwasher. Usually, they are nothing to worry about, and the issue of noise can be often resolved easily. Learn what the different sounds and noises mean, so that you can take the right action if you need to.
1. Beeping noise
When a program ends, an audible beep will sound. You can choose to disable or adjust the volume of this beep from the settings. For further model-specific information, please refer to your appliance's instruction manual
Buzzing noise
A buzzing noise is usually nothing to worry about. You can hear your dishwasher buzz when it forces water down the drain. If the sound is very loud, check your pump impeller for blockage or damage. To do this, you will need to remove the lower basket, spray arm and filter unit.
Grinding noise
If your dishwasher is making grinding noises, it’s likely that a foreign objects has wedged itself inside the pump of the dishwasher. This could be hard food or an item which was being cleaned and has broken during the wash cycle. You can check if this is the case by removing the lower rack of the dishwasher, then the spray arms and finally the filter unit for inspection.
3. Knocking or rattling noise
The cause can be a number of things:
1. Spray arm is hitting the utensils as the dishwasher has been loaded incorrectly. To resolve this, position the utensils so that the spray arms can rotate fully without being obstructed.
2. If there is a low load, the water jets can strike the washing tank directly. Load the dishwasher with more utensils or distribute the utensils evenly.
3. Light utensils or baby bottles can move around during the wash cycle. These would need to be rearranged tightly if possible, or clipped with an accessory to the dishwasher basket.
