What is Rinse Aid for a Dishwasher?

Rinse aid is a surfactant product designed to enhance your dishwasher’s cleaning and drying performance. It works by reducing the surface tension of water, which:

  • Prevents water spots on glasses and dishes
  • Ensures dishes come out perfectly dry
  • Adds extra shine to glassware
  • Minimises the risk of etching by thinning the water bond

Rinse aid is particularly helpful for delicate glassware and fine tableware.

Where to Put Rinse Aid

Rinse aid should always be used separately from detergent, even if your detergent includes a small dose. This is because:

  • Detergent and rinse aid are dispensed at different stages of a programme
  • Each surfactant has different effects on cleaning and drying

Note: Do not try to replace rinse aid by using extra detergent — this can etch glassware or leave residue.

How to Use Rinse Aid

1. Load your dishwasher as usual.

2. Open the rinse aid dispenser by pressing the latch and lifting the lid.

3. Pour rinse aid carefully until it reaches the max line. Avoid overfilling, as this can cause leaks.

4. Close the lid securely.

5. Wipe any spilled liquid around the compartment.

6. Run your dishwasher as normal.
