Keep your delicate glassware sparkling and protected from corrosion with these simple care tips. By choosing the right wash programme, using the correct accessories, and managing water hardness, you can help your glasses stay clear and shiny for years to come.

Delicate doesn’t have to mean short-lived — follow our guide to keep your favourite glasses looking their best.

Which Dishwasher Programme Should You Use for Glass?

Choose a gentle cycle.

To protect thin or delicate glassware, select a programme that washes at around 40°C — this is often labelled ‘Glass’ or ‘Delicate’, depending on your dishwasher model.

This lower-temperature setting provides a careful yet effective clean, removing light food residues without exposing your glassware to high heat or pressure. It’s also perfect for washing delicate tableware, fine cutlery, and temperature-sensitive plastics.

For model-specific information, refer to your dishwasher’s instruction manual ) to identify the exact glass-friendly programme name.

Use a Bottle Holder for Extra Stability

Proper loading makes all the difference. For added safety when washing tall or narrow items such as wine glasses or bottles, use the Bosch Bottle Holder

Why use it:

  • Keeps tall, slender items securely in place during the wash cycle.
  • Prevents tipping or breakage that could occur if items shift.
  • Ensures optimal spray coverage for a thorough clean.
  • Fits into the lower basket of most Bosch dishwashers.

Before purchasing, always check your dishwasher’s model number to confirm compatibility.

Add Rinse Aid Separately to the Detergent

Rinse aid is a surfactant product that helps reduce the surface tension of the rinse water. This allows water to drain more efficiently, leaving your dishes and glasses sparkling clean and perfectly dry.

Bosch dishwashers automatically dispense rinse aid during the final rinse, which also neutralises soap residue and prevents limescale deposits.

Note: Rinse aid is not the same as detergent. Avoid adding extra detergent to compensate for the lack of rinse aid, as this can cause streaks or cloudy results.

Determine Your Water Hardness Level

In Singapore, the water supply is considered soft, meaning it contains very low levels of minerals such as calcium and magnesium. This is good news for your dishwasher and your glassware — it means you generally don’t need to adjust the water hardness settings or use dishwasher salt.

However, if you’d like to confirm your home’s water hardness, you can still use a Water Hardness Test Strip. This can help you verify your setting if your appliance prompts for it during setup — but in most Singapore households, the default soft-water setting is perfectly fine.

Tip: As Singapore’s water is soft, you mainly just need to ensure your rinse aid level is maintained for the best drying and shine results.
